Accommodations are in a four star hotel in Reykjavik today as you arrive. Transfer on your own, unless pre-purchased with EO. The rest of the day is free to explore the Icelandic capital and take optional tours.
Start the day with breakfast, then visit the newly opened and fascinating Northern Lights Center in Reykjavík to gather exciting and informative facts on the Northern Lights. Onwards to Thingvellir National Park (UNESCO World Heritage site) where the world's oldest parliament met for centuries on the shores of Iceland's largest lake.
Continue through farmland areas to the geothermal fields of Geysir with bubbling mud pools and the high-spouting Strokkur hot spring. Last but not least, visit the dramatic two-tiered Gullfoss waterfall, a spectacular sight in winter when frozen mid-cascade.
Stop at Skálholt, Iceland’s capital during the Middle-Ages and now a culture center with a beautiful church. During the day you will also visit Laugarvatnshellir Cave, where two Icelandic families once built themselves a cozy homestead and farm during the early 20th century. The furnishings and buildings in the cave have been restored to show how the residents once lived.

Start the day with breakfast at your hotel. We’ll spend the day driving along the south shore, an area of Iceland that is beautiful to view in the winter. This is one of the main farm regions of the country, and the road will pass by typical Icelandic farms, often with Icelandic horses in the fields.
This part of Iceland is home to the new Lava Centre, an interactive, high-tech educational exhibition depicting volcanic activity, earthquakes and the creation of Iceland over millions of years. (This stop is included from Fall 2017). You will be provided with a ticket to the Lava Center's Cinema, where you can watch a film that provides you with an overview of volcanic activity in Iceland—the hidden power and geology of the island is fascinating.
Make a stop at the spectacular Seljalandsfoss Waterfall and Skógarfoss Waterfall. Onwards to Reynisfjara beach, viewing the extraordinary rock formations and thundering waves of the Atlantic Ocean. Overnight and dinner in a local four star hotel. Hunt for the Northern Lights again in Kirkjubæjarklaustur tonight!
Breakfast at your hotel, and then transfer to Skaftafell National Park. Skaftafell is one of Iceland’s most outstanding areas of natural beauty dominated by the glacier Vatnajökull, Europe’s largest ice cap.
Continue from this region to Jökulsarlon Glacial Lagoon, where you can enjoy the breathtaking sight of floating icebergs on the fantastic 180 m-deep glacial lagoon. We'll then view Svinafellsjokull, one of the most beautiful of the glacial outlets emerging from Vatnajökull. Visit the national park's Skaftafell area, a site of outstanding natural beauty dominated by the Vatnajökull glacier.
We head west after breakfast at your hotel towards the village of Hveragerði, which is one of the few sites in the world located directly on top of a geothermal area. Hveragerði is often called the ‘Flower Village’ because of its many greenhouses heated by hot water from nearby springs.
Travel further along the coast with breathtaking sea waves through a community once flourishing and now deserted. The tour continues to the Reykjanes Peninsula and the Blue Lagoon, which is 100% powered by Iceland’s clean geothermal energy. Enjoy bathing and relaxing in Blue Lagoon geothermal seawater, known for its positive effects on the skin. Return to Reykjavík and a four star hotel located in the city center, where the evening and dinner are on your own.
